Makeup Junkie is flat .........wore..........OUT!!!

Have I had a weekend to remember........just ask my feet!!!! O.k., so I was invited to join the team of "Your Image Matters" with Teresa Napier, and "Loralei's Boutique" with Laurie Smalley to take part of the first annual Dayton Women's Fair.   I of course jumped at the opportunity to be their makeup artist for the runway shows that they so wonderfully orchestrated on "The Little Black Dress". We arrived Friday evening to do last minute set-up and dry runs on the runway shows and headed back home. Saturday started the kick off of the women's fair and we were off, meeting, greeting, talking, laughing, eating the BEST CUPCAKES EVER KNOWN TO MAN, and applying makeup to the most wonderful ladies. That was great, fine, wonderful, fun and worth very minute........until my feet literally fell off!!!! Can I just say.......it's been a looooong time since I have spent an extended amount of time in 3" heels, standing on concrete for 9 hours!!!! When I got home Saturday night, I think I literally crawled to my ever so wonderful bathtub and just sat and soaked, and remembered that I am 3 weeks from turning 42 and totally feel it!!! We finished out the women's fair on Sunday with much enthusiasm, a GREAT PAIR OF FLATSand a lot of "slap happy" moments that will forever be remembered......do any of you remember the Olivia Newton John movie, Xanadu?? Sorry, that was a slap happy moment we shared during our "debriefing" moments!!! I made some great contacts and met some ladies whom I hope will be forever friends! Oh did I mention that my so called "friend" made me take part in the Sunday runway show?????? Oh, paybacks will be such sweet justice!!!

So onto today! I received a facebook message about a casting call for make-up artist'  needed for a new network for women called jane.tv (Makeover Angels) which took place this afternoon in Columbus! So I tossed around the idea of........oh Lord, should I, no.... I couldn't, could I........would I DARE try it????? Well heck yeah I did!!!! I stepped out of my over 40 most protective, housewife taxi to the kids, mom mode and did my thang.....for whatever THAT"S worth!  Do I even have a THANG??? Hmmm, I will have to get back with you on that one.   I arrived just a tad early, received a number and a sheet of paper to fill out, and waited with bated breath for my #1 to be called.  I went to a side room and entered, only to see a panel of very important people seated behind a table and starring directly at ME with a camera rolling.....oh Jesus help ME!  They were, for the record, VERY COOL INDIVIDUALS, they asked me questions about my experience, looked at my portfolio and resume and then we kicked back and laughed and talked about old times and how momma was........o.k. maybe not that last part, but it was pretty short and sweet and very nerve racking for this over 40 makeup junkie!!!!!  When the interview was over, I shook hands, smiled and thanked them for such a wonderful, dream opportunity and walked out and had my picture taken with my cute little #1.
I went to this incredible outta the box moment with no expectations of actually being hired for the makeup artist position, but to prove to myself that I could walk into a room of my piers and present myself with confidence and style and not run, in fear of rejection.  I accomplished something today, and that is that "I can do ALL things thru Christ, who strengthens me"!  Love you Lord!

Makeup Junkies answer for: Are you "Warm" or "Cool" ?

If you have ever heard makeup counters girls at the department stores speak of Warm or Cool colors and had not one single clue of what they were talking about......I'm here to help!!!

Alot of ladies do not realize that their hair color, eye color, skin color and undertones will establish what color category they will call their own!

So we will start with the Beautiful WARM COLORING:
~Those who fall under this category will generally have golden blonde, strawberry blonde, red, orange-red, auburn, golden brown, chestnut brown and chocolate brown colored hair.
~They will also generally have brown eyes with flecks of gold, hazel, green or blue eyes with gold or brown flecks.
~Flip your wrist over and take a look at the color of your veins, warm colored people will have green veins and a golden undertone.

Next we have the Cool Coloring:
~Those of you who fall under this category will generally have platinum blonde, ash blonde, "dirty" blonde, ash brown, light brown, medium brown and dark brown hair colors that will not reflect any auburn, red or gold colors in the sunlight.
~They will also generally have "black" brown eyes that have little to no silvery flecks, dark brown eyes that have silver flecks, green eyes that have silver flecks and blue eyes that have silver flecks.
~Cool colored people will have blue colored veins and have rosy/pink undertones.

So now that you know which side of the color coin you fall, it will make purchasing makeup colors a little simpler!!

9/11 Heart Break Revisited

As this somber day approached, I like other Americans reflected on the memories of that fateful day 10 short years ago.  But as I watched a simultaneous broadcast that was shown on several stations this morning, uninterrupted.......the feeling of sheer despair and peril filled my heart again.  The replaying of actual video footage, the radio contact between fire and police, some on the ground, some in the towers......just breaks my heart.  Seeing those absolutely helpless people in the towers hanging out of the windows, in such panic of not knowing what to do, get out and head down huge amount of stairs, not knowing if the flames and smoke were awaiting you outside the door, stay where they were and lay low to the floor, bust out their office windows to get air or God help them ......jump to their death.  How many of them that made the choice to take a leap in which they knew without a shadow of a doubt would be their demise, were jumping out of sheer panic or were the flames so hot that it was either stay and burn to death or jump......I just can not muster enough to even begin to imagine making that God awful choice.
Seeing those beyond human comprehension, brave and wonderful police, firefighters and EMS personal head toward the immanent danger that they could never know would end as it did.  What kind of person puts aside all fear (and you know it was racing) and all knowledge of what could happen and head in to help strangers?  An incredibly selfless, courageous, brave and unimaginable human being......there was a clip of footage from a program I watched last week that showed the aftermath of the collapse and their were emergency personal and volunteers standing in and on the rubble and all you heard was this deafening "chirping" sounds coming from everywhere........these were the sounds of the emergency distress locaters that all the brave fireman are equipped with and wear on their person.......can you EVEN IMAGINE being a firefighter that survived and you were there to help and you heard those sounds?
The memories that must flood their dreams more often than not, even after 10 years must be heartbreaking.  The guilt of the air traffic controllers who sent out the warning...."Cockpit Intrusion" to the pilots of those fateful flights, but to find out he was too late.....if he had sent the warning just a minute earlier?  Heartbreaking!  The passengers on those flights, knowing that they were doomed for their death, calling their loved ones and telling them how much they loved them and how much they meant to them, I just pray that they had a peace in God at those moments.....the only word that keeps coming to me is peril.

So as I watched these programs, I cried, I held my hand over my mouth and on my head a lot of the time, I was also reminded of the incredible human capacity to get up out of unimaginable horror, wipe themselves off, and keep going.  The people that helped, the people that saved lives, the people that prayed to God for strength of others, the people who did not give up but they got up and GOT GOING!
GOD BLESS THEM ALL!!!!

Makeup Junkies 6 Most Flattering Fall Makeup Colors!

This fall's prettiest makeup shades are intense and can be quite scary, but here are some little tips to pulling it off no matter your complexion.

1. {VIOLET EYELINER}
This color will make brown eyes look richer, greens greener, and blues more intense.  Line your upper and lower rims to create a burst of color around the eyes and if you want a smoky effect then smudge with a cotton swab.
TRY:  NYX Slide on Pencil in Purple Blaze  or  Nars Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner in Bourbon Street.

2. {NAVY AND GOLD EYE SHADOWS}
Navy looks incredibly gorgeous on brown eyes, and paired with a little gold color beneath the lower lashes.....LOOK OUT!
TRY:  Elizabeth Arden Color Intrigue eyeshadow in Indigo  and  Make up Forever Aqua Eyes in Cream #11.

3.  {MAGENTA LIPSTICK}
This unique color surprisingly works on all skin tones!  Use a lip brush when applying to insure your edges are defined, and be sure to keep the rest of your makeup soft and simple.....
TRY:  Avon Ultra Color Rich Moisture Seduction in Plum Gorgeous  or  L'oreal Paris colour Riche Lipcolour in Sea Fleur.

4.  {BLACKENED GREEN EYE SHADOW}
Try a metallic green with a touch of black to put a sexy gorgeous spin on that smokey eye!  It pairs well for an evening look with pale or burgundy lips!
TRY:  Lancome Color Design Palette in Jade Forever

5.  {RUSSET RED BLUSH}
This beautiful red hue does enhance skin redness, so be sure to conceal any blemishes or spots.  To get a "flushed" sparingly dust a small amount onto the apples of the cheeks with a circular motion and continue to sweep it along your cheekbones.....USE A LIGHT HAND!
TRY:  M.A.C. Mineralize Blush in Love Thing

6.  {BABY PINK GLOSS}
I must say, this is one of my favorite things to wear....EVER!  Baby pink gives your lips an ultra feminine tint and I love it, if it's too foo-foo you should pair it with a dark ultra sexy smokey eye!!!
TRY:  Laura Mercier Lip glaze in Bare Pink  or  NYX Sheer Gloss in Dandy

And be sure to check out my Faebook Page and hit that good "like" button!  Also my new  WEBSITE is available to take a gander at......so go....gander!!!
