Makeup Junkie and False Eyelashes PT. 1....Uh-Oh!

Well, beings that I am embarking on the wonderful world of freelance makeup artistry and design I have been very diligent in my pursuit of the ever so lovely and quote frustrating false eyelash application!!!  Whew, it is trying at times, but once you apply oh I don't know
90-100 sets.....it's a breeeeeze!!  lol

My favorite two brands that I have found work amazingly well are MAC and Ardell Lashes!  They both offer so many different looks and styles to match your mood or your occasion or your eye shape!  Ardell's website actually gives you categories such as "Style", "Eyeshape", and "Occasion" and gives you which lash strip set works for you....so cool!!  The MAC #7 natural length seems to be a very popular lash for them, and their website offers a awesome description for each lash strip set but they are quite a bit more in the ole wallet.  The Ardell lash strips usually run about $3.50 - $4.00 a pair and the MAC lash strips run at $17.00 a pair, so their is quote a bit of difference in cost.  And I have found that using a no name cheap pair of lashes is about like anything else, you totally get what you pay for......the cheap pairs can tear or rip when you are getting them out of the package and the hair seems to go in crazy directions and not to mention they tend to "come up" on either end because they do bend well along with the natural curve of your eye.  So, spend the extra money on these babies, you will not go wrong, and I think $3.50 is a heck of a price for an awesome lash and I believe along with the MAC lashes, they are made from real hair.  If you are very careful when removing your lashes and take proper care of them, you can get several wears out of them.....WHAT A BARGAIN!!!!!

  • The first step in good application is to measure the length of the lash to make sure you get a proper fit, to do this remove your lash strip from its pack, BE SURE NOT TO GRAB AND  PULL THE STRIP FROM THE ENDS.....take your finger and rub from the strip down the lashes and gently pursued them to unstick from the plastic.

  • NEXT take your lash strip and place them above your lashes at the lash line, they have a little bit of glue on them from the packaging which is awesome because it helps you stick them on as to get a visual of the lashes, and to alloy you to measure the fit!  Now if your lashes are too long, I trim them from the INSIDE corner not the outer corner because if I'm going to loose any, I would rather it be from the inside corner not the outside lash area....agree?

  • NEXT take the lash strip and curve it around your pinky finger and let them sit for just 20 seconds or so, what this does is help them make a natural curve to match our eye shape and helps in the corners not lifting up after you have applied the lashes.  This is such an important step in making your application that much easier...SO DO IT!  he he

  • NEXT step is the application of the glue, the ABSOLUTE BEST glue is the Duo brand, please do not use the glue that comes in some packs!  The Duo eyelash adhesive glue comes in white and dark, and both dry clear so no worries.....and just a side note......they both stink like, well...........like butt, sorry but they do!  Eeeew I know!

  • NEXT take your lash strip and hold it by the lashes, above the glue tube.  Squeeze the tube gently so that a small amount of glue pops out, now what I do is apply the glue by not holding the glue tube OVER the lashes, I hold it under the lashes so that I don't get too much glue out on the lashes and try to get it off and the glue ends up going all over the lashes themselves which is a mess, so this way I have more control over how much glue I use.
O.k. so I got you this far! We will continue with part 2 later because I would like to do part 2 as a video!!!  So ....STAY TUNED & KEEP AN EYE OUT!!!!  MUAH!!

Make-up Junkies product reviews for Lancome and Too Faced!

O.K., so I have used a full tube of Lancome's "Bright Expert" Dark Spot Corrector and after reading the reviews of what other results rendered I did not share in their findings :(
After 4 weeks of use their clinical study showed:
~78.8% of women saw a reduction in the appearance of dark spots
~82.3% of women saw an even toned complexion
I myself did not see a reduction of my spot after my 4 week trial, I did notice though that the texture of my skin was softened a bit, and the even toning of my complexion sadly did not happen........bummer.  I'm sure if I continued to use this product over a 12 week period my results would have been a little better, but at $65.00 for  1.0 Fl. Oz. tube, I cannot afford to keep testing this product for that duration.
~I give this product a 5 out of a possible 10~

Now on to the fun stuff....MAKEUP!!!  So I have seen this Too Faced "Size Queen" mascara advertised on Too Faces web site and blog, went to Ulta and they had never even heard of it and looked at me like I had 4 heads.  I found it at Sephora and was super excited to get this home and try it!  I was so not impressed......I am going to return this mascara as soon as I can get back to Sephora.  It gave me just weird lashes, no lushness or length at all, just really separated and non impressive lashes....really big bummer!!!  The cost of this mascara was $21.00 which is average, but with the average cost came the average coverage..
~I give this product a 2 out of a possible 10~

So there you have it girls, sorry to be such a buzz kill on these products, but I hate for you to waste your money!!!

See what I do when I'm not indulged in the makeup world!!!!  Country girl at heart!!!  Woo-Hoo!!!!  For you that don't know, that is one big ole bull that I was wanting to come to me so I could pet him.......he was so not interested!!!

Makeup Junkie's help on the great shadow debate!!!

O.k. girls, so here it is.....the burning question that wakes you up in the middle of the night when you thought it was too much late night iced tea kickin in!!!  Nope, you know what it is.......
WHAT THE HECK KIND OF EYESHADOW DO I BUY???????

I posted earlier in the year about the difference in eye shadow types, such as:
~ Matte
~ Shimmer
~ Glitter
~ Velvet
~ Satin......and on and on aaaaaand on!
BUT, what is the best places or the best ways to wear all the different choices of finishes you ask, well let me try and direct thou path sista's!

*First off, you will always want to find a really nice light highlighter color("Kitten" by Stila ~ "Blunt" by Urban Decay) to place on the brow bone (that is the area directly under your eye brow's)and the inner corner of the eye area, you would usually use something in the shimmer/sparkle family.....us older beauties would probably not need to go the real sparkly/glitter route, due to the fact we probably do not want to be one of "those" women who are trying to done our ever so lovely teenage years look with our makeup, but our boobs are hanging to our knee's.....and you know you've seen it......So if your feeling a little less teenager'ish......stick with a good honest shimmer, leave the glitter for special occasions, holiday's and halloween!!

*I like to use a really good matte color on my lid area, just to give it a good foundation of color("Naked" by Urban Decay ~ "Omega" by MAC ~ "ABC Gum" by Urban Decay).  I will also use a slight shimmer color on the  middle of the lid as well, it opens up the eye, and depending on the mood I'm in,  sometimes I'm feeling a little froggy and go hog wild and use shimmer.....ALOT!  But when I need to tone it down a bit, I opt for a more all over matte use with a little shimmer right in the middle of my lid.

*And always remember to use a color in the crease of your lid, this gives a little bit of a sultry illusion to the eye, and we all need a little sultry from time to time girls!  You can use a good "go to" color in the dark grey to black ("Carbon" by MAC)or deep brown's("Rapture" by Smashbox ~ "Mulch" by MAC), or opt for a brighter more colorful look by choosing some great plums("FIG 1" BY MAC), charcoal blues("Preppy Look" by Sephora) or greens for the crease, just make sure to blend, blend, blend.....I cannot stress enough how important this step is, get a good fluffy brush(# 224 by MAC) and keep going over the colors in circular motion, or use the ever popular "Windshield Wiper" move to give you a good even, blended look.  And for our aging eyes that seem to be getting more droopy by the day, try to not go past the point of your eyebrow's, make an imaginary line from the corner of your lashes to the outside corner of your eyebrows, you want the illusion of our eyes going up....not out and down!  If you need to tweak those eyebrows, then have at it.....but do so a little bit at a time, it's better to start with just a few then to go pluck happy and get yourself in a pickle!

But I encourage you to buy some different eyeshadow finishes and just experiment with what you like and what you are comfortable with, the possibilities are truly endless!!!!

Makeup Junkie's first ever BOOK REVIEW.."Heaven is for Real"

Sooo, may I say......YOU HAVE TO READ THIS AMAZING BOOK!  I was drawn to this astonishing book which gives account to this precious 3 year old little boys experience in Heaven as he died on an operating table, during emergency surgery.

~ He tells of meeting Jesus and John, and gushes of  how beautiful Jesus is, especially his eyes!
~ He tells of meeting the sister he never knew he had, you see his mother miscarried this child and little Colton never knew a thing of it.

If Heaven intrigues you or troubles you, if you are at a low point in your faith, if you feel as if God has forgotten you then allow this wonderful account to lead and inspire you into knowing without a shadow of a doubt that.................

Confessions of an Over 40 Make-Up Junkie!: Shhhh, Makeup Junkies drugstore secrets!

Shhhh, Makeup Junkies drugstore secrets!

Do I have some good dirt for you beautiful ladies! And good dirt is wayyyy better than bad dirt!  So, I want to share with you some of the great little tid bit secrets of your local drugstores, just so your in the know!

First of all, twice a year, drugstores incorporate new shades into their cosmetic lines.....look for them usually around January and July!

Second, there are two factories in Germany that produce pencil and liquid lip and eyeliners for luxury AND drugstore brands, and you can bet the farm that they use similar pigments and waxes to make both. Look for German origin on the package, or on the liner itself.

Thirdly, the short shelves on the ends of beauty aisles highlight new products being featured and drugstores change them weekly or bi-weekly. Seasonal collections are usually out for one to two months, if you see a shade you adore, you had better stock up because once their gone....their gone baby!

SKINCARE
~In the skincare aisle, the top shelf is never higher than 60 inches high due to the fact that 80% of skincare shoppers are women and their average height is 5'4".
~Every company wants to be displayed at eye level, but placement is based on popularity with customers, or to highlight new product launches.
~Some cleansers are "staples" so there are more of them than any other product and they are usually on the bottom shelves!

Maybelline has made an easy foundation finder! The new "Fit Me" foundation makes it pretty simple to match you and your perfect foundation color, powder, concealer and powder blush!! Woo-hoo!!!
First the display should have images of all 18 shades on a card beneath the bottles. Slide your inner wrist underneath the cutouts until you find your matching shade.
Second, the foundations are numbered so once you find your foundation, you can grab a matching powder as well that corresponds to your foundation number!!! AND.....to the right of each shade category are corresponding concealers(2) a bronzer, and powder blushes(4)!!!!!   SO EASY GIRLS!!!!!!

Makeup Junkie's quick look at Bobbi Brown's Fall Tortoise Shell Collection!!

The wonderful Bobbi Brown has come out with a BEAUTIFUL Fall collection girls!!  For those of you who adore, as I do, the easy to wear neutrals in warm shades....you have to check this collection out!!!  There are two different palettes in this collection, the first is the Sand Palette which would work well for those of you with fair skin, and the Bronze Palette which would work well for those of you with darker skin.  Each contain 8 shadows, 4 are located on the top of the compact, and a drawer pulls out to reveal the second set of 4 shadows......VERY COOL!

Another cool side note is that these shadows are designed to be layered~no blending is required, so you begin with the lighter shade and layer the darker shades until you reach your desired color intensity!

These palettes can be purchased for $60.00 and can be found at different counter locationsor via the internet at bobbibrowncosmetics.com! You can also find this line at certain Macy's stores as well!
